Proximity measures how similar that profile is to your overall observed pattern. These are related, but they are not the same.
Two nearby profiles may differ considerably in overall similarity, while two highly similar profiles may occupy different regions of the observed field.
The Observatory therefore displays both:
Both Position and Proximity emerge from accumulated observations over time.
Projection Filters let you choose which dimensions are included in the current view. Turning a dimension off does not change anyone’s underlying profile. It simply reprojects the same observations through a different lens.
A profile may move when filters change because the active projection changed, not because the person changed.
Presentation overlay only. The combined authoritative projection and every star position remain unchanged.
